The Internet has recently turned into the biggest source of entertainment, pleasure, and overall information the world has ever seen. People can blow through hours of time just by searching random topics they are interested in on Google. However, employers and teachers alike do not like the users of the computers in their classroom or office to be able to use the Internet for unproductive activities. This is where a Proxy site or proxy website can greatly improve your workday.

A proxy site is a website designed to help you get around content filters set up by network administrators. The network administrators are hired to make sure no one in the computer room is doing anything they shouldn't be doing on a company or school owned computer. The most common unproductive activities enjoyed by workers and students alike are playing flash games, watching YouTube videos, posting on Internet forums, updating their Facebook status, and even looking at pornography. It was after these content filters came into place that Proxy Websites skyrocketed in popularity.

A proxy site works by first connecting you to its own servers and then sending you to your website of choice afterwards. This way, if a network administrator is looking over your shoulder, metaphorically speaking, they will see the web address of the proxy website instead of you chatting with friends on Facebook. Now you may be thinking to yourself, "What doesn't the administrator just block the proxy websites too?" That is a valid question and it has a pretty simple answer. There are too many Proxy Sites to block. Not only that, but every day it seems like a dozen more become available for people to exploit at school or their place of business.

To find a good list of proxy sites, you can use any of the popular search engines available. Once you are at the proxy site, you just type the website you want to visit into their little URL bar and you will be taken to the site just like you would be at home. With proxy websites available, it is basically impossible to block students and employees from visiting any website they want at any time they want. This is great for slacking off, but horrible for productivity. Until someone can come up with a way to block all the proxy websites that will ever be created, students will continue to slack off instead write their papers and company workers will continue playing games instead of filling out their spreadsheets.
