Personally, I still try to keep My Ip Address rather secure, but if someone else found out what it was, it wouldn't be the end of the world. People are often worried when their IP address becomes available to others because they do not know the security related ramifications of such an event. The reality is, someone else knowing your IP address is not that big of a deal. It's kind of like someone knowing where you live but not having a key to get in. As long as you keep the door locked at all times, you should be safe from any intruders. Someone would really have to go out of their way and do a lot of extra work to break in through one of the windows. Plus, even if they did break in, they would most likely be caught by security software that comes with your computer when you buy it.
You may be asking yourself, "How do I know if my IP address can cause me harm?" If you computer is well protected with firewall and antivirus software, then you have nothing to worry about when it comes to IP addresses. My IP address is probably known by many people because it is posted next to posts I make on various message boards around the web, but since I have the proper safety software on my computer, I've never had a problem with viruses or intruders. If you are like me and have all the security measures in place, then there is no reason to worry about someone having your IP address. If someone tries to attack your computer you will be instantly notified that the attack has been blocked and everything is fine.
There are some hackers who know how to get through all your security software, but it is unlikely one of them would waste time trying to break into your computer. These masters of the art of hacking will likely be spending more time trying to get into networks of schools, businesses, or government buildings. To them, breaking into your computer would just be a huge waste of time. Not to mention, it is nearly impossible for a normal, everyday person to hack into another computer without leaving evidence. Much like an intruder breaking into your house without leaving footprints or some DNA evidence behind.
All in all if you have been thinking to yourself, "What is someone finds out my IP address and tries to do me harm?", you have been worrying about nothing and are just a little paranoid. If you don't believe me, you can get a dynamic IP address to help you feel safer. These IP addresses change frequently as you restart your computer from day to day, so an intruder would have to be the fastest hacker of all time to be able to get inside your computer.
